History
The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society was established in
1923 by its co-founders to protect and promote the standards of Scottish
country dancing. Today the RSCDS is an International organisation catering to
the needs of over 21,000 members.
Our Branch, originally East Surrey – West Kent Branch of 'The Royal Scottish
Country Dance Society’, was founded at a
special meeting attended by Miss (later Dr.) Jean Milligan and 150 local
dancers on 9th December 1953The Branch
then changed its name in 1969/70 to its current name of ‘The Royal Scottish
Country Dance Society’ Croydon & District Branch’ in order to reflect the
Branch’s location more clearly.
