Dear Member

I am sorry to inform you that one of our Vice Presidents – Christine Evans, died in October last year.  Christine had served on our Committee as Social Secretary, Chairman and had been our Newsletter editor, producer of same for many years.  Even when Christine could no longer dance, she came to the Tea and Chat events.  Many friends from the Branch attended her funeral in November.

An update on the classes, sadly we have had to close the Wednesday class.  There is now a Combined class being held on Friday evenings 7.30 – 10.00 pm.  It is the intention that our beginners/intermediates start at 7.30, with more experienced dancers joining in from 8.00 pm.   Alison Raisin is the Branch teacher.  We said goodbye to Catriona Bennett as she had informed us she would not be available to teach after Christmas.  At that time, we thanked Catriona for taking the Friday class for us.

Our next Tea and Chat afternoon is on Tuesday 19 March at 2.00 pm in the Lounge at Purley URC, Brighton Road, Purley.  All are welcome to come.

As we go into this new season of dancing, all our efforts may come to nothing, if we do not have people coming forward to serve on the Branch Committee.  We need a Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary, if we do not get these Officers, THE BRANCH WILL HAVE TO CLOSE.  I have served for 3 consecutive years, and under the constitution, I am stepping down as Chairman and I am not able to serve on the committee for the coming year.  Nomination forms are elsewhere in this Newsletter, so please think seriously about this matter.

Yours sincerely,

Dorothy
